How to Promote Your Pet on Social Media

Promote your pets today

To accompany our awesome new feature (read about it here), we’ve written this guide to getting your pets Insta-famous!

Animals are the real stars of social media. Who doesn’t love checking Instagram to see what Mr Bagel the chinchilla is up to, or visiting Twitter to read about Lil Bub’s jet-setting life? But how do you even begin making your pet a social media star?

Start a Blog

Write content that really captures your audience and communicates what your pet is all about. Is your Frenchie sassy? Does your Exotic Shorthair only eat the best gourmet meals? Or maybe your Guinea pig dances better than Shakira – this is your chance to show off your pet’s personality and quirks that make them unique.

Using #Hashtags

Identifying the correct hashtags to use on social media can be trickier than you’d think. It’s all about finding out what’s trending, and using hashtags in a way that reaches the right kind of audience. Do a little research before you start scattergunning hashtags in your posts: use a mixture of high-reaching and niche tags for Instagram and jump on what’s trending hotly on Twitter.

Be Engaging

The whole point of social media is to connect with people and be – you guessed it – social! Engage with your audience, like their pictures, comment on their stories and reply to them. You don’t get anywhere on social media by keeping to yourself!

Hold Contests and Shoutouts

Contests don’t have to cost you anything. Once you have a few followers, try asking your community to partake in caption contests, best pet costume, or best drawing of your pet contests to get everyone involved and engaging with you. You could also do daily shoutouts to other pets and feature a photo of the day from one of your audience to make them feel special and valued.

And that’s how you get the ball rolling! You’ll soon be fetching plenty of followers and likes, and your pet could be on its way to superstardom!
