Staff appointments in the UK continued to rise in August, but at the slowest rate for over two years, according to a new industry report. The latest Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG Report on Jobs showed that temporary and contract staff billings increased at the slowest pace since May 2013 last month, with the rise in permanent placements also decelerating to levels not seen in 27 months. There are growing concerns about the lack of specialist skilled workers across the UK, according to a new survey produced by the National Specialist Contractors' Council (NSCC). Some small businesses do not have the right basic digital skills despite the growth of reliance on technology in recent years, claims new research. The latest UK Business Digital Index from Lloyds Bank, in association with Accenture and digital skills charity Go ON UK, found 23 per cent of UK small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) do not have the correct digital skills to make the most of potential opportunities.
